Field trips create opportunities for children to learn hands]on in geography, art, music, public services, space exploration, botany, farming, animal care and my other topics.
A classroom visit from NASA or a trip down the street to the fire department for example are an exciting way to reinforce what children are learning in the classroom. Learning about dinosaurs? Let's take a trip to the natural science museum. When learning about space the professionals from NASA came by to set off a rocket and put the kids in a space suit!
While studying Community Helpers, the kindergarteners visited the Avon Fire Station, post office, library, and a local dentist.
Parents and their guests are always encouraged to join our field trips both indoors and out. When was the last time you sat in a fire truck?
Outdoor Field Trips - We have visited an apple farm, pumpkin farm, strawberry and blueberry farms, Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, the Botanical Gardens, and Natural History Museum.
Indoor Field Trips - We been visited by NASA, a Bee Keeper, a cellist, a reptiles expert, a gardener, farm animals and others.
Stoney Ridge Farm Visits - Karen and Arthur Stewart, the owner operators of Avon Montessori School, have a small farm in the heart of Avon. Twice a year, students and their families are invited to come and take a hay ride, cook some hot dogs, see how we take care of the animals and watch the hundreds of bats fly from the barn at dusk. We also welcome other visits from our parents and guests.
